Jeani Elbaum is showing three pieces at the Serenbe Photography Center Opening Reception. I find the most provocative image to be the flowergirl piece. Ask her about it at the show.

Her project “Closet Memories” is a series Elbaum has worked on for several years. She describes the project:

Through the years I have held on to various items and pieces of clothing that have a particular sentimental value. Among these are dresses sewn by my grandmother from my childhood, my glamour girl clothes from my teens and my flight attendant uniform from my twenties. The memories attached to this clothing range from the joy of having a special Easter dress made just for me to the sights, tastes and smells experienced when flying for an airline. I have re-experienced moments from my past, through memories brought on by these pieces of clothing. What I gleaned from this project is that memories are not fact. They are naturally part fiction, touched by desire and the realities of life, with wishful thinking and a few bits of truth thrown into the mix.

It is my total pleasure to share with you the following invitation. I hope you’ve heard of the Serenbe Community, one of the coolest neighborhoods ever. Go dive around the site to get the whole picture – but think to yourself “ecofriendly-slow-food-movement-ecclectic-boutiques-meet-Atlantic-Station-meets-Napa”. Ish.

One of the very best things Serenbe has to offer is the brand-new Serenbe Photography Center. Classes, workshops, lectures, black and white, color and digital labs, massive printers… It’s going to be major.

And you should come take a tour of the new space, drink wine and look at/buy amazing art tomorrow night at the Opening Reception, which is being held in conjunction with the ArtWalk at Serenbe (part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography).

We’ll be releasing preview images later today, and check back soon for our interview with the Serenbe Photography Center Director, Kathryn Kolb and contemporary photographer Stephanie Dowda.

We’re heading to the Farmhouse after the opening. Thought hard about the Hil but was ultimately swayed by the desserts. (Always.) If you’re planning on dropping by early, pick up a late lunch at the Blue Eyed Daisy Bakeshop…

Art. Food. Nature.

Life is so good.
